South Africa continues to reject accusations of arms sales to the Russian Federation

Now the government of South Africa claims that the Russian ship allegedly delivered an “old order from 2018”.

The government of South Africa continues to deny the fact that weapons were loaded onto a Russian ship. It will be recalled that the Lady R ro-ro vessel secretly docked at the Simons Town naval base between December 6 and 8, 2022. The vessel received the cargo at night with the transponder turned off.

American intelligence is sure that weapons and ammunition were loaded onto the Russian roller. Subsequently, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa initiated a judicial inquiry into the matter.

Now, half a year later, the Minister of Defense of South Africa, Thandi Modise, insists that the Russian ship, on the contrary, delivered to the port cargo ordered back in 2018. Modise claims that there is no need for an investigation, South African media reports.

“We didn’t do anything wrong. We only ordered and received the cargo,” the minister insists.

At the same time, the public organization Open Secrets demands that the government publish a report that would confirm or deny the new official position.
