South Korea detained a ship heading from the Russian Federation to the DPRK
The ship’s crew is suspected of violating UN Security Council sanctions against North Korea.
On the morning of June 20, the South Korean Navy detained a cargo ship with a deadweight of 2,900 tons near the Korea Strait. This is reported by Yonhap.
The offending ship was transporting coal and iron ore from Russia to the DPRK and China.
There were 10 crew members on board the dry cargo. The South Korean coast guard moved the vessel and moored it in the waters at the anchorage in Busan on the southeast coast of the Korean peninsula.
It will be recalled that at the end of March, South Korea detained a ship with a Chinese crew, which was heading to Russia via the DPRK. According to preliminary information, the crew refused to open the cargo hold. Therefore, it is not known what exactly the ship was transporting. The ship is also currently in Busan.
