Switzerland imposes sanctions against 189 Russian vessels

Official Bern has joined the 17th package of EU sanctions against Russia, imposing sanctions against almost 200 vessels and dozens of individuals and organizations.

Switzerland has announced its accession to the 17th package of sanctions against Russia. This was reported by the country’s Federal Council on June 3.

The new restrictions cover 17 individuals, 58 organizations and 31 companies associated with supporting Russian aggression. The sanctions list also includes 189 vessels, which, according to the EU, are part of the Russian Federation’s “shadow fleet” used to circumvent oil embargoes.

In addition, Bern has imposed restrictions on a number of goods that may have military or dual-use purposes. All measures have come into force since June 3.

Recall that the 17th package of anti-Russian sanctions was adopted by the Council of the European Union on May 20. It pays special attention to countering embargo circumvention schemes, in particular through the so-called shadow fleet, as well as strengthening control over the export of sensitive goods.

The day before, USM reported that Panama had removed more than 650 vessels from its register due to sanctions.
