The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering easing sanctions against some of the “shadow fleet” vessels to increase available tonnage and reduce record tanker freight rates.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, about 230 tankers from Western companies have joined the Russian “shadow fleet.”
