The anniversary of the liberation of Zmiinyi Island: how it was (video)
The invaders left Zmiinyi Island on June 30, 2022. A week later, the flag of Ukraine flew on it.
A year ago, on June 30, 2022, the Operational Command “South” and later the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces confirmed that the Russian occupiers had left the Snake Island.
“Indeed, on the same day, June 30, the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Konashenkov, prophesied a ridiculous semantic construction: “On June 30, as a step of goodwill, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation completed the tasks set on Zmiinyi Island and withdrew the garrison located there,” recalled the serviceman, officer of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Artem Shevchenko.

From a military point of view, Snake Island was finally liberated a week later, on July 7, 2022.
“Then several special forces groups from various Defense and Security Forces landed on Zmiinyi and planted the national flags of Ukraine there, taking control of this remotest piece of Ukrainian land,” the officer says.
The story of the first and not the last victory at sea was recorded in the film from the series “Military intelligence of Ukraine: at sea, in the sky, on the ground.”
As previously reported by USM, the border guards who defended Zmiiny Island were awarded the III degree “For Courage” orders.
