The Cabinet of Ministers approved important changes to the procedure for certifying seafarers

The Cabinet of Ministers approved a number of changes to the procedure for certifying Ukrainian sailors.

In particular, the government made clarifications to the procedure for exchanging qualification documents, issued before Resolution No. 1499 came into effect, the head of the Shipping Administration, Yevhenii Ignatenko, said.

Also, the Cabinet of Ministers regulated the procedure for issuing seafarers’ qualification documents instead of lost or damaged ones.

Ignatenko began to talk about the changes to Resolution No. 1499. One of them is about the possibility for seafarers to update qualification documents 12 months before the end of the validity of the confirmation instead of 6.

A new confirmation of a professional diploma will be issued for a period of five years (10 years for shipmasters of vessels sailing in protected waters) from the date of issue.

Currently, the changes to Resolution No. 1499 have not yet entered into force. This will be reported separately.

USM previously reported that the list of ranks for Ukrainian sailors will be expanded on the Diya portal.
