Oleh Hryhoryuk became the Chairman of the Seafarers’ Committee of Eastern, Central Europe and Norway (SCOCEEN).

This was reported by the Maritime Transport Workers Trade Union of of Ukraine (MTWTUU).

At the SCOCEEN meeting, it was decided to elect the head of the PRMTU, Oleg Hryhoryuk, as the Chairman of the Committee.

SCOCEEN has existed for over 30 years and serves as an effective mechanism for establishing social dialogue between employers and trade unions. Representatives of trade unions from the countries of the region, the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association (NSA) and Norwegian trade unions participate in its work. Usually, during the Committee meetings, strategic issues related to negotiations with the NSA are traditionally discussed, including working conditions, wage increases and compensation.

The MTWTUU added that Norwegian shipowners remain one of the key employers for seafarers in Eastern and Central Europe, including Ukrainians.

“Since 2002, within the framework of SCOCEEN, the Trade Union has represented the interests of Ukrainian seafarers, who, despite the full-scale war in Ukraine, remain among the leading workers on the ships of companies that are part of the NSA,” the report says.

In turn, the head of the Ukrainian Seafarers’ Union and SCOCEEN, Oleh Hryhoryuk, emphasized that thanks to the high level of training, professionalism and responsible attitude to work, Ukrainian seafarers have always played an important role in world shipping.

“We are constantly working on concluding new agreements, expanding partnerships and creating conditions for stable employment and social protection. We are grateful to our international partners who support us in these aspirations. I am confident that our unity will continue to strengthen the positions of Ukrainian seafarers and create a decent future for our union members,” said Oleh Hryhoryuk.
