The concessionaire of the Olvia port, QTerminals, plans to remain on the Ukrainian market
Qatar’s QTerminals, which has taken over the concession of the sea port “Olvia” in Mykolaiv, intends to continue working on the Ukrainian market despite the fact that the port is not functioning.
In an interview with Ukrinform , Ukraine’s representative for the Middle East and Africa, Maksym Subh, spoke about the intentions of QTerminals. Subh informed that during his visit to Qatar he had a meeting with the director of QTerminals.
“I would like to note that the Qatari side, despite the fact that the port is not functioning, has kept jobs for Ukrainian workers and continues to fully pay wages and take care of people. The head of QTerminals also emphasized that the Qatari side has no intention of leaving the Ukrainian market. Currently, it uses one of the provisions of the agreement on the occurrence of force majeure circumstances, and after the specified period of its validity expires, it is determined to extend it,” said Subh.
He added that the Qatari side believes in the prospects of this project and sees the need to stay here, including to help Ukrainians who may simply lose their jobs if the company exits the market.
“In addition, we very seriously at the level of the government and companies discussed with the Qatari side the need to involve Mykolaiv ports, including Olvia, in the Black Sea Grain Corridor, and asked to appeal to the UN and the Turkish side to put pressure on russia and force to agree to this,” informed the special representative of Ukraine for Africa and the Middle East.
Subh also informed that Qatar is currently studying a number of Ukrainian projects, besides, the Ukrainian side is preparing additional proposals for Qatar in the context of the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
