The construction of elevators on the Ukrainian-Polish border is delayed
In Poland, they announced the lack of progress in the construction of elevators along the border with Ukraine. Elevators should solve problems with the export of Ukrainian agricultural products.
According to the statement of the State Secretary of Poland for cooperation with Ukraine, Jadwiga Emilevych, the USA promised to help with the construction of grain elevators on the Ukrainian border. Such a decision would allow Polish farmers to store surplus grain instead of selling it at a discount, as happened in early 2023.
Instead, the construction of the elevators is being delayed. As a result, after a very fruitful harvest period, the capacity of Polish elevators and storage systems is clearly not enough to accept Ukrainian grain, sunflower and other goods, Business Censor reports.
Emiliewicz noted that Warsaw should protect Polish farmers before helping Ukrainian ones, and the European Union should review its subsidy scheme before such a powerful agrarian country as Ukraine joins the bloc.
Poland also wants the EU to agree to a new subsidy of 30 euros/t on Ukrainian grain transiting through Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria.
