The cost of a new hydroelectric power plant on the Dnipro can be about $1 billion

The construction of a new hydroelectric power plant instead of Kakhovska, which was blown up by the Russians, may cost about $1 billion.

The cost of a new HPP on the Dnipro may cost about $1 billion, the Ministry of Economy reported.

Such a price is connected with the fact that it is not only about installing new hydraulic units, but also about restoring the integrity of a huge dam.

It will take at least five years to rebuild the dam alone, and the cumulative humanitarian and environmental consequences of the blow-up will only grow.

According to the Minister of Economy Yulia Svyridenko, the world community should act as hard as possible towards Russia. Now Ukraine needs help as soon as possible in minimizing and eliminating the consequences of the detonation in the interests of all humanity. First of all, we are talking about the dismantling and construction from scratch of the entire complex of the new HPP.

According to preliminary calculations by the Ministry of Environment and the State Environmental Inspection, the damage to water resources due to the blow-up of the hydroelectric power station amounts to UAH 2 billion.

The Ministry of Economy noted that Ukraine warned the world community about the threat of tragedy as early as last fall of 2022. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy personally informed the European Council and called for an international observation mission to be organized at the facility.

Currently, a headquarters for the liquidation of the consequences of Russia’s undermining of the Kakhovska HPP has already been created under the chairmanship of the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko.

The government allocated UAH 120 million to the State Agency for Water Resources for the sustainable supply of drinking water to the residents of Mykolaiv and UAH 845 million to provide drinking water to the residents of the Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

UAH 1.5 billion was also allocated for the construction of new water mains. This is necessary to provide Kryvyi Rih, Nikopol and Marganets with drinking water. The regions are equipped with specialized water delivery equipment and post-treatment systems.

Earlier, Ukrhydroenergo announced that they plan to build a new station on the site of the Kakhovska HPP destroyed by the Russians after deoccupation of the territory.

The company has already started professional discussions on how to quickly block the dam after de-occupation. Specialists of the project institute and builders are involved in this. Experts are also discussing measures to supply water from the upper reservoirs of the Dnipro Cascade to provide areas that will suffer from a lack of water. We are talking about three or four regions.
