These vessels were handed over to the Defense Intelligence in June 2024 as part of the military initiative “Steel Front” from Metinvest.
Ukrainian scouts showed the operation of high-speed armored amphibious assault boats Combat Boat 90. This was reported in the press service of the Defense Intelligence of the MoD of Ukraine.
Swedish amphibious assault boats Combat Boat 90 (Stridsbåt 90) significantly strengthen the capabilities of special forces at sea. These vessels were handed over to Defense Intelligence in June 2024 as part of the military initiative “Steel Front” from Metinvest. The total cost of the boats was UAH 165 million.
The boats have already been dubbed “drakars” – in honor of Viking ships. Now they are used for amphibious operations, patrolling, evacuation, as well as for fire support.
Combat Boat 90 boats are 14.9 meters long, 3.8 meters wide and can reach speeds of up to 43 knots. Their carrying capacity is 4.5 tons. The boats are also capable of transporting 21 soldiers in full combat gear. The crews of these boats underwent special training in Sweden.
Combat Boat 90 are armed with firing points for machine guns and grenade launchers, and can be equipped with anti-ship missiles, sea mines or depth charges if necessary. In addition, the boat’s armor protects against bullets and debris, and the range is 300 nautical miles, which makes it indispensable in combat missions at sea.
As USM wrote, a month ago Sweden agreed to transfer six Combat Boat 90 combat boats to Ukraine.
