As a result of the lowering of the water level in the Dnipro River, historical formations can be seen. These rapids protected the Ukrainian Cossacks.

Oleg Vlasov, a researcher from Zaporizhzhia, shared the photos on his Facebook page.

It should be noted that these rapids were of great importance for Ukrainian history, because they were an important reference point for Ukrainians and were used by the Cossacks as a natural barrier from enemies.

The last time this could be observed was 70 years ago.

The Dnipro Rapids are outcrops of granites, gneisses and other native rocks of the Ukrainian Crystalline Shield in the Dnipro River between the modern cities of Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia.

We will remind you that the pilot service began to be carried out on the Dnipro rapids from the middle of the 16th century.

Ships and rafts were guided through the rapids by professional pilots – a self-governing community whose center at the end of the 18th – beginning of the 20th century was the village of Locsmanska Kamianka (now part of the city of Dnipro).

The alloy was made in two ways. Several “resting places” were identified on both banks of the river in case of an emergency stop.
