The European Commission will propose to limit grain imports from Russia and Belarus
Next week, the European Commission will propose to limit grain imports from Russia and Belarus.
It is expected that next week the European Commission will present a proposal regarding quantitative restrictions on the import of grain from the Russian Federation and Belarus, reports “European Truth” “Evropeyska Pravda”.
The proposal is being presented against the backdrop of protests by European farmers and calls for Ukraine to limit imports of products from aggressor countries.
According to an unnamed European diplomat, the proposal will include quotas for food products from Russia and Belarus. The EU fears a full embargo due to the risk of global price fluctuations and negative impact on the poor countries of the world.
Transit of Russian and Belarusian products will be allowed, as before.
According to Eurostat, more than 1.5 million tons of grain were imported into the EU last year, compared to 970,000 tons in 2022.
USM previously reported that Poland will ask the European Commission to block grain imports from Russia and Belarus.
We will remind, despite the embargo on some types of agricultural products from Ukraine, Poland continues to import the same items from Russia and Belarus. Ukrainian journalists learned about it.
