The European Parliament demands to modernize the infrastructure for Ukrainian agricultural production

Members of the European Parliament demand from Brussels to develop transit infrastructure for Ukrainian agricultural products and to develop an agricultural strategy.

On Wednesday, May 10, the European Parliament held a debate on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine, writes Rail.insider. The representatives of the Council of the EU and the European Commission took part in the discussion.

The deputies agreed that aid to Ukraine should remain a priority for the European Union. They also agreed to build infrastructure for the transit of Ukrainian grain.

“In order to really help Ukrainians and not harm their own farmers, the European Union should not only open borders for Ukrainian products, but also build a solid infrastructure for its transit. This means bringing the existing “paths of solidarity” to a new level,” the MEPs believe.

At the same time, the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, promised to facilitate further transit of Ukrainian grain. Currently, the goal of Brussels is to reduce logistics costs, improve the coordination of transit, infrastructure and equipment in ports, shipping terminals and border crossing points on the “roads of solidarity”.

In addition, the deputies proposed a radical solution to the European Commission: purchase Ukrainian grain, in particular wheat, store it in EU countries and transfer it as humanitarian aid to Asian and African countries.
