The first corvette Ada for the Navy was launched in Turkey

The first Ada Milgem type corvette for the Ukrainian Navy was launched in Turkey. In August, the ship was named “Hetman Ivan Mazepa”.

The launching ceremony of the corvette took place on October 2 at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard, the Navy of Ukraine reports.

The ceremony was attended by the commander of the Navy, Vice  Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa. He thanked Turkey for its cooperation.

“Our cooperation gets another dimension – a beautiful corvette that will soon protect Ukraine, free shipping, which is certainly a common goal for our countries,” Neizhpapa said.

We would like to remind, that the contract for the construction of the ship was signed by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine with Turkish companies in December 2020. At the end of last year, the corvette was already 80% ready. In spring, the corvette was to be delivered to Ukraine for completion, and already in 2024, it should be put into operation as part of the Navy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. However, the war made the delivery impossible, and it is currently unknown who will be engaged in the completion and re-equipment of the ship.

At the same time, during the autumn period the Ukrainian military staff had time to complete an internship on a corvette. According to the USM, the ship is equipped with short-range air defense systems, as well as navigation, a radar station, a sonar and a modern combat control system.

Weapons on the ship are foreign missiles.

Turkey is expected to continue building Ada-type corvettes for Ukraine.
