The grain initiative is not fully operational despite the Russian Federation’s statements

The full implementation of the Black Sea Grain Agreement has not yet been ensured, despite Russia’s statement on its continuation.

As a reminder, the Grain Agreement covers three Ukrainian ports. However, since April 29, not a single ship has been allowed to enter the “Pivdennyi” port. As Reuters writes, the UN said that, together with Turkey, they are “working closely with other parties to restore full-fledged work and remove all obstacles that hinder operations and limit the scope of the initiative.”

Ukraine accused Russia of actually deleting the port “Pivdennyi” from the Black Sea Agreement. For its part, the Russian Federation complains that it cannot export ammonia through the pipeline to the “South” port in accordance with the agreements with Turkey and the UN.

On Friday, May 26, the UN confirmed that the export of fertilizers, including ammonia, had not been carried out “so far”.

As  Укрінформ Ukrinform notes, today 54 vessels are waiting for passage to Ukrainian ports. The Joint Coordination Center (JCC) received 11 applications for registration.

The spokesman of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric said that the JCC on Friday agreed to the passage of two ships. Currently, 13 vessels are loaded in Ukrainian ports: six in Chornomorsk and seven in Odesa.

Meanwhile, the average number of daily entry and exit inspections fell to 3.2 in May, the lowest since the grain initiative was launched last August.
