The heads of the state port in the Odesa region were informed of suspicion for losses to the state of over 8 million UAH

The management of the state-owned commercial sea port and a businessman were reported on suspicion of causing losses to the state of over 8 million UAH.

As reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office, suspicion was announced to the head of the state-owned enterprise, two heads of its structural units and a businessman.

Their actions led to losses to the state of over 8 million UAH.

The investigation established that the head of the state-owned enterprise and two officials, in collusion with the businessman, organized the purchase of two telescopic loaders at an inflated price – almost 20 million UAH instead of the real 12 million UAH. As a result, the port’s funds were illegally seized in an especially large amount – 8 million UAH.

The National Police of Ukraine clarified that this is about the embezzlement of funds of the sea port in the Odesa region. According to the documents, the equipment was necessary for loading and unloading operations at the port – moving containers, bulk materials and equipment. However, officials submitted artificially inflated figures to the tender committee.

The prosecutor’s office indicted the actions of the manager and the remaining individuals under Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (official negligence), Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power) and Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misappropriation of property in especially large amounts).

During searches at the suspects’ residences and in the office premises of the enterprises, documents were seized that will be used as evidence in criminal proceedings.

A petition was sent to the court to remove the port manager from his position. A petition was also prepared to select preventive measures for all suspects.
