The Houthis have declared open war against the forces of the international coalition in the Red Sea
The US Navy repelled another attack by the Yemeni Houthis. The targets of the militants were both ships of the coalition forces and civilian vessels passing through the region.
The Yemeni Houthis, supported by Iran, openly declared war on the forces of the international coalition on January 9, around 21:15 local time. This was reported by Gospodarka Morska.
Militants launched an attack using UAVs and anti-ship missiles. Their targets were both coalition warships and ships passing through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
The attack was repulsed, there were no enemy hits. In total, the Navy shot down 18 drones, two anti-ship cruise missiles and one anti-ship ballistic missile, according to US command.
The operation involved F/A-18 aircraft that took off from the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), American guided-missile destroyers of the Arleigh Burke type USS Gravely (DDG 107), USS Laboon (DDG 58), USS Mason (DDG 87) and the British guided-missile destroyer Type 45 HMS Diamond (D34).
It was the 26th attack by the Houthis since November 19, when the militants attacked commercial shipping lanes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The previous Houthi attack occurred on January 6, when the USS Laboon destroyer was shot down by missiles fired from Yemen.
USM recently reported that the Prosperity Guardian coalition was preparing for military action against Houthi ground targets in Yemen.
At the same time, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated that attacks by the Yemeni Houthis on merchant ships in the Red Sea have already harmed more than 40 countries.
