The IMO called on the Russian Federation to stop threats to shipping in the Black Sea
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) called on Russia to comply with international conventions and stop threats to merchant shipping in the Black Sea.
The 129th session of the IMO Council, which met in London, welcomed Ukraine’s efforts to ensure the freedom and safety of navigation in the northwestern part of the Black Sea and prevent the global food crisis, the Ministry of Infrastructure reported.
The IMO Council expressed its deep disappointment with the suspension of the Grain Initiative and confirmed its demands to Russia for an immediate end to military aggression and threats to merchant shipping. The Council also warned the Russian Federation against any actions that would threaten world food security and the supply of food, medicine and basic necessities to Ukraine.
Previously, the Cabinet of Ministers created a Fund in the amount of UAH 20 billion to ensure compensation guarantees if ships and cargo are damaged as a result of Russian military aggression.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialized UN agency that regulates international merchant shipping and is responsible for safe shipping. IMO includes 175 member countries.
