The Indian holding refused to accept “Sovkomflot” tankers

The operator of the world’s largest oil refining complex, the Indian holding Reliance Industries, will not accept oil from the tankers of the Russian company Sovcomflot.

The refusal is related to US sanctions, writes Reuters.

According to sources, the Indian company Reliance Industries, a major buyer of Russian Urals oil, has asked that new supplies not be transported by tankers operated by “Sovcomflot”.

This exacerbates oil export problems for the Russian Federation, as its oil companies may find it difficult to find vessels to sell their excess oil after recent Ukrainian drone attacks on oil refineries in the Russian Federation. Russian companies are already struggling to collect payments for oil exports due to the introduced banking restrictions.

“We prefer that refiners do not accept oil from sanctioned vessels because of our political and commercial interests and US sanctions,” one Indian government source said.

Also, the Government of India should decide on the entry of sanctioned ships or “Sovcomflot” ships to Indian ports.

As previously reported by USM, at the end of February 2024, the Russian “Sovcomflot” and 14 tankers associated with the company were on the US sanctions list.
