The Kilia plant is being reoriented to major repairs of barges

The Kilia Shipyard started major repairs of barges with complete painting of the hull.

“As promised, we are reorienting the Kiliф Shipyard to capital repairs, which, unlike local ones, significantly extend the life of the barge without the need to take it out of service again,” said the acting director. Dmytro Moskalenko, General Director of UDS.

Section barges SLG-007 and C-406 were the first to go through comprehensive repair with raising to the slip. Mechanisms were repaired on the ships, all problematic parts of the hull metal were replaced. The hull, deck and covers were also fully painted, although previously painting was only done on areas with replaced metal.

Almost all necessary work has already been done on barge S-406. This week, she was launched, checked for watertightness, serviceability of the anchoring device and hatch covers.

On SLG-007, all the work is finished, documents from the Register of Shipping of Ukraine are currently pending.

Works with full painting of the barge additionally take about two weeks. In particular, material costs are also increasing.

“But from the point of view of the efficiency of the use of the fleet, it is justified. The service life of the barge is extended without repeated repairs. Downtime and risks of cargo damage are significantly reduced. Guaranteed successful passage of all control services of the port control,” Dmytro Moskalenko emphasized.

Also, repairs of barges C-408, C-445, SLG-009 have already begun, pending repairs of barges SLG-008, C-455, DM-2114 and DM-2170.

The ships “Sofia”, “Chelyabinsk” (“Oleshki”), and “Nikolay Budnikov” are also under repair at the plant. Repair work has been completed on the motor ship “Captain Glushko”, the ship is waiting for documents from the Register to extend the sailing period.
