The last defender of Snake Island has returned home

A border guard from Izmail spent more than three years in Russian captivity and will see his youngest son for the first time.

During the prisoner exchange on July 23, Ukraine returned the last defender of Zmiinyi Island, Vitaliy Hyrenko. This was reported by the community “Defenders of Zmiiniy”.

Vitaliy Hyrenko is a border guard from Izmail, Odesa region. He spent 3 years and 5 months in Russian captivity. All this time, his wife and two sons were waiting for him at home, who took an active part in campaigns in support of the prisoners.

The serviceman had only seen his youngest child, who is now three years old, in photographs until this day.
