The Ministry of Development is preparing a development plan for Bessarabia, in particular, ports on the Danube

The Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine presented the Bessarabia Recovery Investment Plan (BRIP), prepared with the assistance of the EBRD.

The plan aims to analyze the opportunities for the development of infrastructure and the agro-industrial complex of the Bessarabian region.

As noted by Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Andriy Kashuba, the study was conducted by the international consulting firm Royal HaskoningDHV with the assistance of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

“Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Bessarabia region has undergone significant economic changes. The blockade of Ukrainian Black Sea ports has made the Danube ports of Izmail, Reni and Ust-Dunaysk key to supporting our country’s exports and trade. The transport infrastructure, which previously played a supporting role, has become a vital corridor for Ukrainian agricultural exports and the supply of essential goods. The capacity of the ports has more than doubled, which emphasizes the resilience and strategic importance of this region,” Kashuba noted.

He also noted that the sharp increase in transportation volumes has created a significant burden on the existing infrastructure, which requires urgent investments in the modernization of ports, improvement of road and rail connections, as well as increasing the efficiency of logistics processes.

Thus, work on the investment plan has allowed to form a vision for the future development of Bessarabia.

Earlier, USM reported that last year the cargo turnover of ports on the Danube was reduced by almost half.
