The Ministry of Economy explained how Trump’s tariffs will affect Ukraine

The Ministry of Economy explained the impact of the new tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on Ukraine.

Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko noted that a general tariff of 10% is in effect for Ukraine, compared to 31% for Moldova or 20% for the European Union.

In 2024, Ukraine exported goods worth $874 million to the US, of which $363 million was for cast iron and another $112 million for pipes.

In return, Ukraine purchased goods worth $3.4 billion from the US. Ukrainian tariffs on American goods are quite low — 10% for cars, and 0% for coal and oil.

“Therefore, now we have a chance to agree on other conditions — the American statement clearly indicates such a possibility,” the minister wrote.

According to her, if “everything remains as it is,” the American universal tariff will hit mainly small manufacturers. Therefore, the government is already working on better conditions for Ukraine.

Ukraine exports to the US over 600 different categories of goods (very different – even wrenches), of which 65 types of products – worth over $1 million.

“Ukraine has something to offer the United States of America as a reliable ally and partner. Both our countries will benefit from fair tariffs,” Svyrydenko summarized.

Earlier, USM reported that US President Donald Trump signed a decree on the introduction of reciprocal tariffs on imports “from all countries”, seeking to protect American industry. The base tariff rate will be 10% for most countries, including the UK, Brazil, Australia, Turkey and Ukraine. For EU countries, the rate will be 20%, and for China – 34%. Russia is not on the list of countries for which tariffs have been introduced.
