The Naval Flag of the Armed Forces is 106 years old
The commander of the Ukrainian Navy congratulated his colleagues on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the Naval Flag of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
106 years ago, on April 29, 1918, Ukrainian flags were raised on the ships of the Black Sea Fleet and in the Sevastopol fortress, said the Commander of Ukrainian Navy, Vice-Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa.
That day, following the results of the delegates’ meeting, the commander of the Black Sea Fleet issued an order stating: “All ships, port property and fortifications located on the coast are the property of the Ukrainian People’s Republic. Therefore, wherever necessary, I order to raise the Ukrainian flag.”
This event marked the subordination of the entire Black Sea Fleet to the government of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, which was later joined by marines and aviation units. As a result, even then Ukraine became a full-fledged maritime state.
“Today, we meet this day in the conditions of military aggression by the Russian Federation, just like more than a hundred years ago, the Russian Empire is trying to destroy Ukraine. But we will not give up and will definitely win. We are proud of the flag of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which has become a symbol of courage, indomitability and devotion to its people, it flew, flies and will always fly,” commented the commander of the Ukrainian Navy.
