The Navy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces commented on the Russian attack on a ship in the Black Sea

The ship was attacked outside the maritime corridor. It was used during the shelling anti-ship missile X-22.

This was stated by the spokesman of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, captain 3rd rank Dmytro Pletenchuk.

According to him, the Russians attacked the ship when it was outside the Ukrainian grain corridor.

“In the open sea, but in the exclusive maritime economic zone of Romania. The exclusive maritime economic zone is not territorial waters, their status differs accordingly. In any case, this is another flagrant war crime on the part of the Russian Federation,” said Dmytro Pletenchuk.

During the attack, the Russians used the X-22 anti-ship missile, which was developed to destroy aircraft carrier groups.

“In principle, this situation could have happened, considering that the Russians sometimes use strategic aviation, use missiles, which I call “50 on 50″. Because they are 50 years old, since they were adopted, and for them to deviate by 50 km is also a normal practice. They were developed to fight aircraft carrier groups – this is the X-22 anti-ship missile,” Dmytro Pletenchuk explained.

He also added that it is quite difficult to expect from the Russians that they will be responsible for the use of such weapons systems in the water area in which civil shipping is carried out.

“As for the consequences, there was no information about the dead and injured. You can say “lucky” this time. Of course, this case will probably be considered both in the international legal field and on international platforms. Because the Russian invaders continue to violate all possible and impossible international conventions and rules,” emphasized the spokesman of the Navy.
