The Navy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces disclosed the details of the destruction of the sea control point of the invaders

The destruction of the “Mechanic Pogodin” tanker was carried out in full compliance with the norms of International Humanitarian Law.

Yesterday, March 11, the Navy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces hit the Russian control center located on the Mechanik Pogodin tanker. The occupiers have deployed an observation post for conducting intelligence on the ship, as well as EW devices, the press service of the Navy reported.

the tanker was also periodically used as a platform for striking FPV drones on the territory of the Kherson region.

The Navy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces emphasized that the ship meets the definition of a military object according to clause 40 and sub-clause c) of clause 60 of the San Remo Manual on International Law applicable to armed conflicts at sea.

Therefore, the destruction of the Russian tanker “Mechanic Pogodin” not only prevented the invaders from implementing their plans, but was also carried out in accordance with the norms of International Humanitarian Law.

Reference: the tanker “Mechanic Pogodin” (IMO No. 9598397) belonged to the sub-sanctioned Russian company VEB — Leasing OJSC. In August 2018, the vessel was arrested. Until the summer of 2023, the tanker was located on the territory of the Kherson Seaport. However, after the Russians blew up the dam of the Kakhovska HPP, the tanker washed ashore on the Kinburn spit, which is temporarily controlled by the Russians.
