The Netherlands handed over an Alkmaar-type mine-clearing ship to Ukraine

Ukraine has received an Alkmaar-type mine-sweeping ship from the Netherlands.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Navy.
Commander of the Ukrainian Navy Oleksiy Neizhpapa said that Ukraine recently received an Alkmaar-type mine-sweeping ship from its partners.
Another such ship is expected to be delivered by the end of the year. Crew training is also underway.
Recall that earlier the Netherlands decided to transfer two ships of this type to Ukraine — Makkum (M857) and the same type Vlaardingen (M863). At the end of 2024, the Royal Netherlands Navy officially decommissioned the Makkum minesweeper from its fleet.
Makkum has completed almost 40 years of service in the Dutch fleet. During this time, the ship participated in numerous international exercises and neutralized a significant number of explosive objects, including more than 120 in the North Sea.
USM previously reported that the Netherlands may allocate 400 million euros to strengthen Ukraine’s maritime security.
