The number of ships passing through the Sulina Canal decreased by more than 50% in 2025

In 2025, 1,378 vessels passed through the Sulin Canal, which is 54% less than in 2024 (3,021 vessels).
This was reported by Avalon Shipping Operations Manager Kateryna Kononenko.
She said that in 2025, 1,378 vessels passed through the Sulin Canal. In 2024, 3,021 vessels passed through the canal, and in 2023, 4,160.
Kononenko noted that the reasons for the reduction are related to rising costs, additional fees, longer transit times, and more formalities.
“The Danube has become more expensive and slower in terms of logistics. However, if we compare 2025 with 2020-2021, the trend looks more positive. This shows that the region still has strategic importance,” she wrote.
Earlier, USM reported that the tariffs for the passage of ships in Sulina changed in 2026.
