The operator of the Nord Streams filed a lawsuit against the insurers

The company Nord Stream AG wants to sue the insurance companies because they refused to compensate for the damages caused by the explosions.

The operator of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines is demanding EUR 400 million in compensation from insurers. The Financial Times writes about it.

Nord Stream claims insurers have failed to pay compensation for damages caused by underwater explosions that damaged and deformed gas pipelines on the bottom of the Baltic Sea. A preliminary estimate of Nord Stream’s costs for removing pipelines from water, their stabilization, repair and replacement of lost gas reaches 1.2-1.35 billion euros.

As a reminder, in September 2022, as a result of explosions on the Nord Stream-1 and Nord Stream-2 pipelines in the Baltic Sea, a gas leak occurred at 4 sites in the exclusive economic zones of Denmark and Sweden. Most European countries believe that Russia is behind the infrastructure damage.

As USM recently wrote, Denmark has officially completed the investigation into the explosions at the Nord Stream gas pipelines.

The USM also reported that Russian ships visited the site of the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosion at least three times in June last year. One of them moved near the object 5 days before the incident.
