The Polish canal bypassing Russia has already received almost a thousand vessels

As of July 2, almost a thousand ships passed through the Vistula Spit in Poland through the shipping channel.

It will be recalled that the canal connected the Baltic Sea with the Vistula Bay and allowed ships to enter the port of Elblung, bypassing the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation. As TTS writes with reference to the office of the Maritime Administration in Gdynia, 991 vessels have already passed through the canal.

“The construction of the waterway connecting the Wisła Bay with the Bay of Gdańsk is the first investment in the history of the Maritime Administration in Gdynia, which consists of all construction sectors except the railway,” said Magdalena Kężkowska, spokeswoman for the Administration.

The canal through the Vistula Spit was officially put into operation on September 17, 2023, on the 83rd anniversary of the invasion of Poland by Soviet troops. In May, a border checkpoint was opened on the canal.
