The price of saltpeter in Ukrainian ports has reached a “ceiling” due to the halt in imports

Currently, Ukraine has the most expensive ammonium nitrate in Europe. Its import to seaports was previously prohibited.

This was stated by the director of Infoindustry Dmytro Gordeychuk, writes Latifundist with reference to NV.Business

According to him, prices for ammonium nitrate in ports have already reached 27 thousand UAH/ton versus 21 thousand UAH/ton, at which it was sold before the ban on import through seaports of Ukraine.

The cost of urea (another ammonia-based fertilizer, but with a higher ammonia content) reached 29 thousand UAH per ton versus 27 thousand UAH/ton before the introduction of restrictions, although this fertilizer is not explosive and is not subject to a ban on import. All because of its small supply on the Ukrainian market.

Gordeychuk noted that currently Ukraine has the most expensive ammonium nitrate in Europe, and a comparable price is only in Romania. The market has hit a psychological price “ceiling”: it makes no sense to buy nitrate more expensively for the next sowing season, as well as to set a price for it that will be equal to the cost of urea. It is necessary to find ways to resolve these logistical difficulties, Gordeychuk noted.

He added that active purchases of ammonium nitrate and urea are currently suspended until the situation in the ports is resolved. Import by sea allowed nitrate to be imported at prices 10−20 euros/ton cheaper than via land corridors. The situation may stabilize within a month.

Earlier, USM reported that due to the Navy ban, vessels with nitrate and ammonia are being diverted to Giurgiuleşti and Galati.
