The risk of a drop in the water level in the Kakhovskyi Reservoir remains high

The invaders‘ dumping of water from the Kakhovskyi Reservoir provokes a radioactive disaster. Despite the spring irrigation, the risk of a drop in the water level remains high.

Currently, the Kakhov reservoir is full thanks to the spring flood. However, the terrorist country continues to drain water from the reservoir. Dewatering of the reservoir can stop the cooling of the Zaporizhzhya NPP. Such actions of the russians create risks of radioactive contamination in the entire Black Sea region. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi.

The Ministry of Environment has been monitoring the situation around the Kakhovskyi Reservoir since last year, when the occupiers blew up the dam at the Kakhovskyi HPP. The russians provoked the discharge of large volumes of water, which reached a critical limit. “Ukrhydroenergo” was able to regulate the reservoir’s fullness level thanks to increased discharge of water from the HPP upstream.

The problem with the fullness of the Kakhovskyi reservoir was considered at the meetings of the commission on technological and environmental safety and emergency situations. Ukraine has developed several options to prevent an accident in the event of dehydration of the reservoir.

There is a shipping lock on the territory of the Kakhovskyi hydraulic junction. It is necessary for vessels to overcome the difference in water levels in the dam of the Kakhovska HPP. The seizure of the lock by russian terrorists completely blocks shipping at the mouth of the Dnieper.
