The Russian captain is suspected of exporting stolen grain from Ukraine


The captain of the Russian vessel was informed of suspicion due to the illegal transportation of looted grain from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea informed the Russian captain of a vessel that was transporting stolen grain from TOT. This was in the press service of the department reported.

Law enforcement officers established that during June 2023, the captain of the Russian ship “Alfa M” made 4 illegal flights to/from the occupied territory of the peninsula. In particular, the Russian entered the closed Sevastopol sea trade port.

In an attempt to hide criminal actions, the Russian periodically turned off the AIS and entered fictitious information about the ship’s course into it. Now the man faces from three to five years of imprisonment.

As reported, grain export figures have increased significantly in the Black Sea ports of the temporarily occupied Crimea. Thus, in the fall of 2023, the number of vessels transporting stolen grain increased in the ports of Kerch and Feodosia. Also, the number of grain cargoes on the roads of Kerch, which is located near the seaport, has increased significantly.

In total, during the past year, the Russians took out at least 4.8 million tons of stolen grain from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

Recently, USM wrote that Turkey has promised to apply sanctions against Russian ships coming from the occupied Ukrainian territories.
