The Russian oligarch’s yacht escaped sanctions and “hid” in Vladivostok

Russian oligarch Oleksiy Mordashov’s Nord yacht, which has evaded sanctions around the world for more than a year, has arrived in Vladivostok (Russian Federation).

The yacht’s AIS had been turned off for about eight months, and on June 12 the vessel first transmitted a signal near Indonesia, Bloomberg reported.

On June 25, the $500 million superyacht changed its destination to Vladivostok, and is currently there, according to MarineTraffic data.

The publication also reported that Mordashov’s press secretary refused to comment on the movement of the yacht.

The Nord turned off its transponder on October 26 — after attracting attention by setting a course for Cape Town.

It will be recalled that after that the mayor of Cape Town called on the government of the South African Republic to ban the entry of the Russian oligarch’s superyacht into the local port.

The Nord superyacht, 142 m long and worth more than $500 million, is under sanctions from the EU, Great Britain and the United States after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February.

In addition to Nord, Mordashov owns a yacht Lady M worth $27 million. But it was able to be confiscated by the Italian authorities in March of last year.

Alexei Mordashov, a billionaire from Putin’s inner circle, is one of the oligarchs also subject to Western sanctions. He is also the main shareholder and chairman of the board of Severstal, the largest steel and mining company of the Russian Federation. Mordashov’s fortune is estimated at $18 billion.
