The Russian shipbuilding industry is unable to implement the project of a new aircraft carrier

The Russian Federation declares plans to build the aircraft carrier “Storm”, but the industry does not have the capabilities for this.

Russia continues to talk about the creation of promising aircraft carriers, in particular, about the “Storm” project. At the same time, industry restrictions, sanctions and the long repair of the “Admiral Kuznetsov” indicate the lack of real opportunities for the implementation of such plans, writes the OSINT project Russian Forces Spotter.

The Russian military-industrial complex does not have the necessary production capacity to build a modern aircraft carrier. None of the existing shipyards is able to fulfill such an order, which confirms the gap between the declared intentions and the real state of the shipbuilding industry.

The only aircraft carrier of the Russian Federation – “Admiral Kuznetsov” – has been under repair since 2017. The work is being delayed due to accidents, fires and the collapse of the dry dock, and now the ship is considered practically unfit for further operation. Part of the personnel has already been transferred to land units, which indicates a reduction in its role in the fleet.

Against the backdrop of sanctions, limited funding, and the protracted war in Ukraine, the prospect of building a new aircraft carrier looks unlikely. The announced projects remain at the level of propaganda statements, while the actual state of the Russian Navy is characterized by the lack of modern ships of this class.

On the eve of the USM reports that the Russian flotilla in the Mediterranean Sea was left without tanker support for a month.
