The Russians could target a tanker in Odesa to cause an environmental disaster

On the day the Russians attacked a civilian vessel in Odesa, their target could have been a tanker carrying fuel.

The bulk carrier “Aya”, which was damaged by a Russian missile attack on September 12, remains in Romania, Dumska reports.

Journalists found out that on the night of September 12, the captain of the bulker radioed the Romanian Coast Guard and asked for help. At that time, the ship was outside the territorial waters of Romania, but in its exclusive economic zone.

According to the captain, there was an explosion on or near the ship. The Romanian ship went to the bulker to escort it. Fortunately, the ship did not need help, it continued its movement.

Probably, the Russian X-22 missile did not hit the ship, but near it. The weight of the warhead of the missile is about a ton, it is designed to hit aircraft carriers. So in the case of a direct hit, the ship would sink.

At the time of the attack, there were several tankers transporting fuel to Ukrainian ports near the mouth of the Danube. The Ukrainian military told the publication that the X-22 missile could have been aimed at such a tanker in order to disrupt the supply of oil products to Ukraine, but accidentally turned on dry cargo.

If the missile had hit the tanker, it would have spilled several tens of thousands of tons of oil products and caused a serious environmental disaster.

It will be recalled that on September 12, a Russian missile hit a commercial vassel that left the port of Chornomorsk in the Odesa region with a cargo of grain.

Later, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres reacted to the terrorist country’s attack on a civilian ship. The attack on the ship was also condemned by the Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs of Austria.
