The SBU detained the captain of the ship who was helping to export Ukrainian grain from Crimea
The security service detained a foreign cargo ship and its captain, who worked for the aggressor, in the waters of Odesa region.
The crew of the ship was carrying out Russian orders for the export of Ukrainian grain from the occupied Crimea, the SBU reported.
The investigation established that in 2023-2024, the ship repeatedly called at the port of Sevastopol to load stolen grain.
After that, the ship transported agricultural products to the countries of the Middle East. The captain periodically turned off the ship’s AIS and entered inaccurate information about routes and stops in the logbook.
The captain of the ship turned out to be a citizen of one of the countries of the South Caucasus. The crew also included 12 foreigners.
Documents, navigation aids and other evidence confirming criminal activity were found on board during searches.
The captain was informed of the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 332-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the procedure for entering and leaving the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine). He faces up to 5 years in prison.
The vessel was towed to Odesa and arrested, according to the court’s decision.
Previously, USM reported that Ukraine detained a vessel on the Danube because of ties with the Russian Federation. The ship Usko Mfu entered Ukrainian waters after a voyage to occupied Sevastopol.
