The second “Ada” corvette for the Ukrainian Armed Forces Navy will bear the name of Ivan Vyhovskyi
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, assigned the name of Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi to the Ada-class corvette for the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The new name of the corvette became known from Presidential Decree №150/2024. It is noted that this is done in order to restore the historical traditions of the national army and perpetuate the memory of the outstanding Ukrainian military, political and statesman Hetman of the Zaporozhian Army.
It will be recalled that Zelenskyy also visited Istanbul, where he visited the shipyards where corvettes are being built for the Ukrainian Navy.
“I got acquainted with the degree of readiness and equipment of the corvette “Ivan Mazepa”. I talked with the servicemen of the Navy of Ukraine,” he said in a video message dated March 8.
Zelenskyi added that he also inspected the construction of the second Ada-class corvette and personally reported that he had “given it the name of Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi.” He also thanked the President of Turkey and Turkish and Ukrainian defense companies for their partnership.
It will be recalled that the contract with Turkey for the construction of two corvettes was concluded in the fall of 2021. Within a year, the first corvette, named “Hetman Ivan Mazepa”, was launched.
The keel of “Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi” was laid in the summer. It is known that the corvette will be armed with the MICA VL anti-aircraft missile system, 76 and 35 mm caliber guns, anti-ship cruise missiles (8 launchers) and “Murene 90 Impact” torpedoes.
