The security of the Ukrainian maritime corridor will be strengthened

The International Maritime Organization will work on strengthening security.

“Among the main topics of the negotiations is a package of proposals for international technical assistance for the safe operation of Ukraine’s maritime sector, its recovery in the post-war period, and the results of the operation of the temporary export corridor through the Black Sea,” Ministry of Reconstruction of Ukraine reports.

In seven months of operation, this logistics route exceeded the volume of cargo transportation of the Grain Initiative and reached the export figures of 2021 from the ports of Greater Odessa — almost 40 million tons.

Also, the representatives of the delegation of the International Maritime Organization were shown the consequences of the Russian Federation’s constant attacks on the sea and port infrastructure in the Odesa, Southern and Izmail ports.

It should be noted that the delegation included representatives of the organization’s member states — Estonia, Lithuania, Moldova and Belgium.

We will remind that about 40 million tons of goods have been exported from the ports of Odesa since the start of the maritime corridor. In particular, 26 million tons of grain.

In turn, in the first quarter of 2024, the ports of the Danube cluster handled more than 5.6 million tons of cargo, including 4 million tons for export.
