The shortage of food in the world was caused by the aggression of russian federation against Ukraine, – Borrell
Russia’s return to the Black Sea Grain Initiative is good news, but it does not change the fact that it was russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine that caused the global food crisis.
This opinion was shared by EU representative Josep Borrell during the meeting of foreign ministers of the Group of Seven.
“Food and fertilizers are not subject to European Union sanctions. It was not the sanctions that caused the food shortage in the world, it was the result of russia blocking the export of grain from Ukraine. The good news is that russia has decided to return to the agreement, which was concluded thanks to the efforts of the UN and Turkey. But for a long time, for many weeks and months, Ukrainian grain could not be exported. You can’t even count the number of people who are currently suffering from hunger,” Borrell emphasized.
According to him, the EU needs to interact with the international community.
“We must continue the implementation of sanctions against the russian economy. And we will support Ukraine in a military sense, which we are doing,” Borrell added.
