The State Bureau of Investigation reported the former commander of the Navy division on suspicion of treason

The State Bureau of Investigation reported the suspicion of the former commander of the 18th division of support vessels of the Sevastopol naval base.

Law enforcement officers, with the assistance of the SBU, reported the suspect to the State Bureau of Investigation on suspicion of high treason, told the State Bureau of Investigation.

Investigators established that in 2014, after the capture of a military unit in Crimea by Russian troops, the officer refused to be redeployed to the territory controlled by Ukraine. Instead, he swore allegiance to the aggressor state.

After that, he continued his service in the Russian Armed Forces. In particular, he held various positions, including the head of the search and rescue service of one of the military units.

The former Ukrainian serviceman was reported to be suspected under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – high treason. He faces up to 15 years in prison. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

USM previously reported that the captain of a vessel that was arrested in one of the Ukrainian ports was informed of the suspicion.
