The UAE banned tankers with Russian oil from entering their ports

The United Arab Emirates banned Eswatini-flagged tankers involved in the so-called shadow fleet of the Russian Federation from entering the ports.

The UAE has banned ships flying the flag of the landlocked African country of Eswatini from entering its ports, Bloomberg reports.

Such a decision is yet another sign that the Middle Eastern country is distancing itself from risky vessels that help transport Russian oil.

Earlier, at the beginning of the year, a similar decision was made regarding ships flying the flag of Cameroon.

Tankers flying under both flags transport oil from Russia and Iran, trying to circumvent Western sanctions.

According to Clarkson Research, Eswatini is a new player in the shipping market. As recently as 2023, not a single ship sailed under the flag of this country. Currently, this number is 26 units, although not all of them are tankers. At the same time, the ownership of 16 tankers under the Eswatini flag is unknown.

Previously, USM wrote that Western countries have currently included only 9% of ships transporting Russian oil on the sanctions lists
