The Ukrainian Navy received a new mine countermeasures ship “Henichesk”

After the transfer, the Ukrainian Navy already has five mine-clearing ships — three from Great Britain and two from Belgium and the Netherlands.

As part of the Coalition of Maritime Capabilities, the Netherlands transferred an Alkmaar-class minesweeper to the Ukrainian Navy. This was reported by the press service of the Naval Forces.

During the official ceremony, the flag of the Ukrainian Navy was raised on the ship and it was named “Genichesk”. The ship was named in honor of the eponymous raid minesweeper that sank while covering its comrades from the special forces.

The ceremony was attended by the commander of the Dutch Navy, the commander of the Belgian Navy, as well as the commanders of the navies of Romania, Lithuania and Latvia.

“Genichesk” will strengthen the Navy’s mine-clearing capabilities — searching, detecting and neutralizing sea mines. After its transfer, the Navy already has five mine-clearing ships. Earlier, the United Kingdom transferred to Ukraine the Sandown-class ships Cherkasy and Chernihiv, and Belgium and the Netherlands the Alkmaar-class ships Melitopol and Mariupol.
