The UN has “relatively optimistic” forecasts regarding the continuation of the “grain agreements”
The UN aid chief, Martin Griffiths, said he was relatively optimistic about the extension of the “grain agreements” in the second half of November.
“We really want the grain agreement to be extended as soon as possible. This is important for the market. Important for continuity. And I’m still relatively optimistic that we’ll get there. We are working hard,” Reuters quoted Martin Griffiths as saying.
According to him, the UN is working on extending the term of the “grain agreement” for up to a year and organizing uninterrupted joint inspections of ships by representatives of the UN, Turkey, Ukraine and russia. The Organization also reminded that more than 150 ships are currently detained near Istanbul.
“I think we should revisit some of the procedures to see if we can streamline them in some way,” Griffiths said.
The UN representative also suggested that Ukraine may try to expand the export agreement by including one more port – Mykolaiv.
