The undermining of the Kakhovska HPP will not affect the work of the “grain corridor”, — Ministry of Agrarian Policy

The undermining of the Kakhovska HPP by Russian troops will not directly affect the operation of the “grain corridor”, including the shipment of food.

“If we look at whether the disaster at the Kakhovska HPP somehow affects the “grain corridor” and the operation of port terminals or shipments, then there is no such direct impact,” commented First Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy Taras Vysotskyi, «Укрінформ». Ukrinform reports.

Vysotsky explained that the port infrastructure of Mykolaiv and Kherson was not involved in the Grain Initiative. That is, there are no physical obstacles to work, except for the potential risk of contamination.

However, the deputy minister reminded that the grain initiative does not work, first of all, due to blocking by Russia. Currently, the volumes of agricultural products that could be shipped in May are not being shipped from the ports of Great Odesa.

“The Russian side, as a participant in the inspections, very often refuses to carry out inspections, or agrees to inspect literally several vessels in some random order,” Vysotsky noted and noted that the work of the “grain corridor” is currently the slowest and worst, compared to previous periods.

USM previously reported that the Grain initiative is already operating at less than 20% of its normal throughput due to Russia’s position in the Joint Coordination Center.

The situation is getting worse every day, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Yurii Vaskov said. According to him, from May 1 to June 8, only 43 vessels passed inspection at the entrance. On average, Russia passes a little more than one ship per day for inspection.
