The United States will hand over the seized russian assets to Ukraine
The US Congress approved an amendment on the transfer of confiscated russian assets to the people of Ukraine.
The amendment will allow the Ministry of Justice, through the State Secretary, to transfer seized assets of Russian oligarchs to the people of Ukraine, CNN reports.
“This will be a blessing for the long-suffering people of Ukraine, a relief for the Americans and a bad day for the oligarchs,” said the author of the amendment, Senator Lindsey Graham.
The corresponding amendment is already in the law on budget financing for 2023, which also contains an aid package for Ukraine and US allies worth almost $45 billion. Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress, Nancy Pelosi, hopes that the law will be brought to a vote in the near future.
Previously, the Spanish Forbes compiled a list of 32 russian yachts whose owners were hiding in the United States. The total value of the ships is $3.7 billion. The most expensive of them belongs to oligarch Alisher Usmanov and is worth more than 588 million dollars. Some of the yachts have already been sanctioned.
Recently, russia strongly opposed the resolution of the UN General Assembly on compensating Ukraine for damages caused by full-scale aggression.
