The US calls on Turkey and the UAE to limit trade with russian federation
The economic ties of Turkey and the UAE with moscow hinder the deterrence of russian aggression against Ukraine.
Brian Nelson, the US Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, met with Turkish officials on February 2. The visit was caused by US concerns about the growth of Turkish exports to russian federation, writes Bloomberg.
The US representative emphasized the need to block the flow of goods to the terrorist country. Goods worth tens of millions of dollars subject to export control continue to arrive in russia. In turn, moscow can use them to continue the war in Ukraine.
In particular, from March to October of last year, dozens of Turkish exporters sent goods worth about $800 million to russia, including equipment worth $300 million and electronics worth $80 million. It is reported that the deals were made on the condition of anonymity.
In the UAE, Nelson discussed steps to limit russians’ ability to evade sanctions. US officials also expressed concern about the role played by UAE companies in the transfer of Iranian drones to moscow.
