The US could hit Russian oil the hardest in history

Energy Secretary Chris Wright called sanctions against Russian oil a “very real opportunity” to stop the war.
Sanctions against Russian oil could be the most powerful economic blow to the Kremlin, said US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, commenting on the possibility of introducing 100% tariffs and other restrictions. Reuters пишуть reports.
President Donald Trump warned this month that Washington was ready to take radical steps if Moscow did not agree to a key peace agreement with Ukraine, which expires in early September.
“This is enormous pressure on Russia. This is the most pressure that can be put on them,” Wright stressed.
The minister emphasized that the United States, as the world’s largest oil and gas producer, is now capable of measures that previously seemed unrealistic.
“We can do things that we could not do before,” he added.
Despite these statements, the Trump administration has not yet imposed large-scale oil sanctions against Russia. However, the European Union has already taken an important step: the 18th package of sanctions lowered the “price ceiling” for Russian oil from $60 to $47.6 per barrel, and also introduced a dynamic mechanism for revising this indicator to strengthen its impact. Recently, USM wrote that the United Kingdom has imposed new sanctions against 135 tankers of the Russian “shadow fleet”.
