The US imposed sanctions against four companies associated with the Russian Arctic LNG 2 project
The United States has imposed sanctions on four transportation companies with nearly 300 suppliers linked to Russia.
Sanctions have been imposed against more than 280 individuals and entities linked to Russia, four of which are shipping companies working on the Arctic LNG 2 project, Splash reported.
With this wide-ranging wave of sanctions, the US has targeted Russia’s future energy, metallurgical, mining and export capabilities, as well as sanctions evasion and circumvention.
The U.S. Treasury Department said the new sanctions target companies and individuals in third countries that help Russia acquire key resources for weapons or defense production. In particular, the US is concerned about the activities of organizations based in China.
The States also imposed sanctions on organizations that worked on the development of future energy production and exports from Russia. These are two vessel operators involved in the transportation of highly specialized LNG modules and gravity equipment developed for the Arctic LNG 2 project.
Two Russian maritime logistics and construction support companies were also sanctioned for their participation in Russian energy projects, including Arctic LNG 2.
The four identified companies include Singapore-based Red Box Energy Services, which provided LNG module transportation services for the project. Red Box is the operator and dispatcher of the Audax and Pugnax vessels that transported LNG modules for the Arctic LNG 2 operator.
Hong Kong shipping company CFU Shipping and its bulk carriers Hunter Star and Nan Feng Zhi Xing, which delivered the final LNG module for the project’s second production line, were also sanctioned by the State Department.
Two more shipping companies that have come under sanctions are Eko Shipping and Transstroy. Eko Shipping is associated with nine vessels and work on the LNG project, while Transstroy and its three vessels were associated with work at the Murmansk Novatek Shipyard in Bilokamenka.
